We exist...
To Glorify God Who is our Sovereign;
To present Jesus Christ Who is our Saviour;
To keep in step with the Holy Spirit Who is our Sanctifier,
in order to be a light so lovely in the community that all would be drawn into His presence.
The Need for an Associate Minister
Originally Published in the Parish Newsletter, Easter 2007
At the Stated Annual Meeting of the Congregation, there was discussion of the project being launched to secure funding for the continued ministry of our Associate Minister, John Urquhart; whose ministry, as the accompanying letter in the newsletter indicates, will no longer be funded by the Church of Scotland after December 2008.
The meeting heard that if Strath and Sleat were to have only one ministry, then not only would the pattern of Sunday services have to be considerably altered, but, of even more concern, the pastoral needs of the congregation and parish could only be met in a very superficial way. This would be a very regrettable position to be in, given the many opportunities and needs that exist. We know, for example, that the community calls on the Church in the event of funerals and weddings and in other ways; and we do want to continue to be able to serve these needs adequately.
The Congregational Meeting was concerned that as many people in the congregation and the community as possible be made aware of this position; and that every effort be made to ensure that adequate funding is secured to enable the position of an Associate Ministry to continue.
