Out with the old!

... or looking back fondly? I have a desk calendar which sits by the bed, with a scripture verse for every day of the year. Today's reads: "Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." It's from Psalm 139 (verses 23 & 24) and serves well as an end of year aspiration. Because the problem with new year resolutions and the conscience-clearing exercises which often accompany them, is that they miss our blind spots. We think we know what's best for us in the future, just like we think we know our vices and misdemeanours. But, in my case anyway, I know that's not true and my family wastes no
