Autumn glory

Recently I found myself wandering through a botanic garden. Spring and summer belong to flowers but trees are the glory of autumn. In our midweek group at Broadford Church we have been studying the fruit of the Spirit. We learned that our job is to be healthy branches by remaining rooted in the "true vine" which/ who is Jesus. Then the Holy Spirit will draw out our fruit: love, joy peace, patience, kindness, et cetera. This is liberating because it removes the pressure to force our behaviour. Instead the way we live becomes an instinctive expression of our faith in Jesus. In his likening of the church to a body, St Paul reminds us how important it is to contribute and to respect the contribution of others (1 Corinthians 12. 12-27). Without both the whole is diminished.
