Doors - out or in?

The story goes that 500 years ago today a German monk called Martin Luther sparked the Reformation by posting 95 theses (or discussion points) to the door of the Castle Church in Wittemburg, where he taught. The rest, as they say, is history!

According to the apostle, John, "the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ" (John, chapter 1, verse 17). Luther's great achievement was to remind the church, which had lost sight of the difference.

While many will regret the bloodshed and division which ensued, others will celebrate how Luther's insight and courage released God's people from their bondage to corruption.

As a pod has to break in order to release its seed, so the fracturing of the medieval church spawned multiple denominations. Happily, many who used to define themselves against one another are being reconciled, as we recognise that our loyalty to Jesus is paramount.

May the Holy Spirit usher us into a new season of faithfulness and fruitfulness, for the sake of the world and the glory of His Name!
