Evangelism 1.0

"The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ)." John 1.41

Last night I heard about the latest outreach tool to be embraced by the Church of Scotland, ACORN. There's a mnemonic behind the name but, essentially, it involves waking up and receiving the first name that pops into your head as a prompt from the Holy Spirit to pray for that person and then to look for an opportunity to draw alongside them and the see what happens... or something like that anyway!

Like Alpha, Try Praying, and so on these programmes can be helpful but as a means of what we should be doing anyway - in obedient response to Jesus' commission to "Go and make disciples of all nations..." The apostle Andrew, adopted by Scotland and several other countries as Patron Saint, leads the way through his simple masterclass - as reported by John, who may be the un-named apostle who was also present on that occasion. Andrew and his companion spent time with Jesus and then found others to share what - or rather whom - they had discovered.

So let's get in step. Use one of the many available resources if that helps but don't forget to spend time with the Lord first. Then you'll have something/ someone worthwhile to share!
