But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. Romans 6.22

There are a couple of strong assumptions behind Paul's announcement to fellow believers in Rome. Bearing n mind that they were a tiny minority in the greatest (pagan) city on earth, they were in a vulnerable situation and used to subordination. Paul promises a change of master rather than total liberation. Yet slavery to God differs markedly from slavery to any expression of human corruption, including and especially one's own sinful nature. Indeed, such is the transformation - in one's perception of, and attitude to, everything including life itself - that faithfulness to God becomes the only thing that matters.

How might applying Paul's teaching to your own situation affect your outlook today? Are there areas of your life which are ripe for a change of authority? Is holiness leading to eternal life a concept which entices you?

Pray for alignment with God's better intentions for your life and well-being...
