"The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house,’ says the LORD Almighty. ‘And in this place I will grant peace,’ declares the LORD Almighty.” Haggai 2.9
As they surveyed their best efforts under pressure of constant attack and after years of exile, it must have seemed incredible to the remnants of Israel that the temple in Jerusalem could ever regain a shred of its former prestige. Yet this episode, when the prophet Haggai stiffens the resolve of high priest Joshua and governor Zerubbabel, reminds us that God is not subject to our constraints. That does not give us licence to do whatever we like but it should reassure us that, when we heed the Lord's command in order to fulfil his will, nothing can stop us.
Are you facing a humanly insurmountable challenge? Are you struggling in your faith? Does the state of the Church fill you with despair? Don't get distracted/ discouraged by what you cannot change in your own strength. Consider what the Lord may be asking of you personally/ specifically and go for it. You may not perceive it but God is going to fill his house with a degree of glory which will eclipse anything that has gone before...
