Of friends and angels

"Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it." Hebrews 13.2

it was the other way around in my experience... Over 30 years ago, a summer holiday job while training for Christian ministry, took me to the west coast of the USA, where I sold books, door-to-door. As can be imagined the response was varied! But one couple took an almost parental interest in me, welcoming me into their home, enveloping me in their family and introducing me to their church. I might have been the stranger but they were the angels.

We have kept in touch ever since, occasionally in person. Indeed they arrive today - for the best part of a fortnight. In so many ways we are different and, no doubt , interesting conversations lie in store as we explore each other's attitudes and opinions on various topics of mutual interest: family, faith, local and international news, &c. But the bond which brought us together is the bond that will hold us together: God's love expressed through the open hearts of God's people.
